TERRY SMITH, of Point Road in Canvey, and Leonard Smith of Dagmar Road in Dagenham, who deny charges of conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to possess firearms, will face a retrial after jurors at Chelmsford Crown Court failed to reach a verdict today.

Brian Wall, 62, of Dagenham, Essex, was convicted of causing 26-year-old commuter Adam Mapleson grievous bodily harm with intent when the latter intervened to help a security guard outside Rayleigh Station in May 2007.

Wall was given an indeterminate sentence and ordered to serve a minimum tariff of 12 years. He was cleared of attempted murder.

Terry Smith, 49 (who wrote the book The Art of Armed Robbery) and his brother Len, 50, are accused of being involved in seven robberies in London and Essex between 2006 and 2008.
