Burglars Target Dead Woman’s Home

(BBC) – BURGLARS have broken into the home of an 88-year-old woman who died after being attacked in Essex on 1 January.

The body of Rosina Waller was found by police at her home in Thorpe Bay, Southend.

Police said the burglary, discovered on Thursday, was “sickening” and added to the suffering of her family because personal effects had been taken.

Officers appealed for anyone with information about the burglary to contact them.

Police were called to the break-in by a neighbour who saw a side gate open.

A bedroom was ransacked and jewellery boxes were emptied.

Mrs Waller died from head injuries following an incident on 1 January.

A 64-year-old man was also found injured in the house and was taken to Southend General Hospital for treatment.

Hassan Salahi, 34, of Cunningham Close, Southend, has been charged with murdering Mrs Waller and also attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on 12 March.
